As a caterpillar, Monarchs only eat the leaves and stems of the milkweed plant. As an adult, they drink the nectar from flowers or the juices from fruit.
Monarch wings are approximately three inches from tip to tip and are about one inch long. They have a black body and their wings are orange and yellow with black lines running through them. Their wings also have a black border with white spots around the edges.
Monarchs go through four stages of development: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult (butterfly). The female Monarch can lay up to 400 eggs on the leaves or stems of the milkweed plant. They are hatched from an egg and become a caterpillar. After a few weeks of eating and getting bigger, they make a chrysalis. It takes a few more weeks before they emerge as a butterfly.
Turtle Tears Monarch Butterfly necklaces are created in the hope of encouraging all to honor this royal butterfly of California's Santa Cruz Natural Bridge Habitat where the Monarchs gather to hibernate every year.
Artisans from Haven Art Studio hand paint each Monarch Butterfly There are over 12 steps for making each Monarch necklace. Once Butterfly wings are painted, they are embellished with glass iridescent beads that bring balance to enhance this beautiful jewelry.
Each Monarch Butterfly necklace is so life-like, many think they are made from real butterfly wings. THEY ARE NOT! We want to preserve the Monarchs for our grand children to enjoy.
